This training is geared toward physicians, PAs, and APRNs. The Florida AHEC Network designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. After attending this training, healthcare providers will be able to:

  1. Describe evidence of effectiveness for agonist maintenance medications (methadone and buprenorphine) at retaining patients with opioid use disorders in care and reducing their overdose mortality.

  2. Understand how hospital emergency departments can guide opioid overdose victims to Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) programs.

  3. Provide evidence of effectiveness for harm reduction, motivational interviewing, and the therapeutic alliance and trauma-informed care (in contrast to confrontational counseling approaches and stigmatizing beliefs).

  4. Emphasize the importance of incorporating certified peer recovery specialists into behavioral health services.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint providership of the Florida Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Network and the Florida Alliance for Healthy Communities. The Florida AHEC Network is accredited by the Florida Medical Association to provide continuing medical education to physicians.
